Dad's Poem: Reflections on the Christmas Season

My dad wrote a poem and sent it to my family. I decided to share it with you. It made me think about the whole meaning of this Christmas Season and what I want to make of it. Hope you enjoy!

Reflections on the Christmas Season
(2010)

Where have all the manger scenes gone?
Plenty of Santa, reindeer, and elves around

Where are all the angels, shepherds, and wise men?
Not spending their money in stores, on the web, or raising credit lines

Have you heard the Holiday Singer’s praise of gifts, money, or all kinds of cheer?
I am waiting to hear, once more, a Silent Night, where there’s nothing to fear

Despite those who made Christmas start in October this year
The King will be remembered, in the end that is clear

Christmas hymns will be sung by carolers dear
The babe of Bethlehem, front and center, bringing joy to the ear

Joseph and Mary’s story will be told, in so few words; there are the shepherds!
The night when the inn was full, the night the sky stood still, the bright star shining on the hay

The day that brought the birth of the Son, given to us, an eternal gift
The only gift we’ll ever need, a sacrifice from our Father above

The King of Kings, the bread of life, the living water, our Savior, our light
What gifts do we need, when we have been given the life of the Holy One?

Oh Holy Night, the stars are brightly shining, this is the day of our dear Savior’s birth.
